SAP Surveys

The SAP regularly conducts surveys among its members and the scientific community.

Decennial surveys on the composition of the SAP

Every 10 years, the SAP conducts a survey to provide a snapshot of its membership composition based on various criteria. It also gathers feedback on several points, providing the Board with direct information from members to guide actions that evolve the society in line with their wishes. The diachronic perspective of these surveys also allows for tracking the evolution of SAP membership and, through them, the landscape of biological anthropology and archaeo-anthropology in France.

1er et 2 octobre 2026 UNIVERSITÉ TOULOUSE JEAN JAURÈS Maison de la Recherche Amphi F417 Longtemps appréhendée à travers des modèles élaborés à partir d’autres régions du monde, la Préhistoire asiatique apparaît aujourd’hui comme une mosaïque de trajectoires humaines, techniques et environnementales. Le pluriel revendiqué dans le titre de ce workshop – Préhistoire(s) d’Asie(s) – reflète cette diversité : diversité des espaces, des chronologies, des traditions techniques, mais également des populations humaines qui ont occupé le continent depuis au moins le Pléistocène inférieur. Plus qu’une préhistoire unique, les recherches récentes révèlent une pluralité de dynamiques régionales, parfois convergentes, souvent originales, qui invitent à renouveler notre compréhension des premiers peuplements et des évolutions culturelles en Asie. Organisé par l’équipe SMP3C (UMR 5608 TRACES), le Master ASE2P et l’Atelier de taille de l’Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès, ce workshop réunira des spécialistes français et internationaux afin de proposer un état des lieux des recherches les plus récentes. Les communications porteront sur les premiers peuplements, les productions lithiques, les données paléoanthropologiques et paléogénétiques, les innovations techniques ainsi que les approches méthodologiques développées dans des contextes aussi variés que l’Asie occidentale, la Chine, la Mongolie, le Japon ou l’Asie du Sud-Est. En confrontant les singularités régionales aux problématiques communes, ce workshop ambitionne de mettre en lumière les multiples Préhistoire(s) d’Asie(s) et les défis scientifiques qu’elles posent aujourd’hui. We invite applications for a fully funded 3‑year PhD position in Microbial Palaeogenomics within the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology, University of Vienna . The successful candidate will conduct palaeogenomic research within the project “ Surviving into Adulthood ” funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) under the supervision of the principal investigator Meriam Guellil. Core of the project will be the study of microbial pathogens from ancient DNA. The doctoral project will encompass: ● Processing of osteological material within the dedicated ancient DNA laboratory at the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology (from sampling to library building and target enrichment). ● Sequencing and metagenomic screening of aDNA genomic libraries for the presence of pathogenic microbial organisms. ● Phylogenomic and evolutionary analysis of microbial genomes reconstructed from aDNA. ● Multidisciplinary synthesis of gained data within the wider spatio-temporal and cultural context of sampled populations and the project. Salary is set annually by the Collective Bargaining Agreement of the university, and a gross monthly salary of €2,832 is paid out 14 times per year. They need to be willing to work in the laboratory; prior experience is a plus, although training will be provided.
